I recently heard a very disturbing report on one of our local TV stations. They reported that the number of children and teens in the United States who visited emergency rooms for suicidal thoughts and suicide attempts doubled between 2007 and 2015, according to a new analysis. Diagnoses of either condition increased from 580,000 in 2007 to 1.12 million in 2015, according to the study, published in JAMA Pediatrics. What concerns me the most is that the average age of a child at the time of evaluation was 13, and 43% of the visits were in children between 5 and 11.

Add to this report the following statistics that have come to my attention:

  • Louisiana has one of the highest divorce rates in the nation.
  • Suicide was responsible for 722 deaths in the state of Louisiana in 2018 which is far above the national average for suicide.
  • Currently the number of children ages 0-17 on antidepressants or other psychiatric drugs nation-wide is 7,21,599.

These statistics alarm me. I believe with all my heart that Satan is attacking our nation at the root of the family through the lies that are promoted by the world. Lies such as the accumulation of things is more important than building relationships. Lies that say popularity and pleasure are more important than God’s truth. Lies that say live for self instead of serving others. The very system that was designed to be a place of safety and comfort is being torn apart.
As you can see, we live in a very broken world filled with broken and hurting people. The simple truth is that the only thing that will help us overcome the lies that Satan whispers to us is Jesus. The truth of the gospel is the only answer that can bring transformational change by bringing hope and healing to these broken hearts with the Word of God and the love of Christ.
The work of No Heart Left Behind is to meet families and individuals in crisis and point them to Jesus and His love for them. We are asking you to join us in our fight for families in our community because it is our belief that strong families make for stronger communities.
Thank you so much for your support. God bless you.
