“A man’s heart plans his way, But the LORD directs his steps.” ~Proverbs 16:9
Someone once said that the arrival of a new year is like receiving a book unread, where the 365 pages of our lives have been woven into a beautiful story filled with love, adventure, and purpose. Each day of every year we have the opportunity to play our role in this great story God is writing, or settle for our own plot that is far less satisfying. As NHLB enters its 13th year, I have been asking God about where he may be directing the story of this ministry, and how it all fits into his great masterpiece. As I look ahead to 2019, I realize that I don’t know exactly what will be written on the 365 days ahead but there are things I do know that God has taught me through His Word to help direct me through the upcoming year.
I am reminded of this verse in Proverbs that says, that we make plans, but it is God who directs our steps. 26 years ago God planted a dream in my heart that one day all people would treat one another with dignity and respect. It is from that dream that God has birthed the ministry of No Heart Left Behind and the vision to bring hope and healing to a hurting world one heart at a time with the Word of God and the love of Christ.
This vision has brought many opportunities to work with hurting people that have lost hope in their marriages, their circumstances, and even in their God. We have had the privilege of walking along side these people with the word of God and restoring the eternal hope that is found in Jesus despite their circumstances. As I look back on the past three years, the opportunities to share the love of Jesus has come in many forms. Our counseling ministry is still going strong as many hearts are being changed, and healing is evident in the hearts of the people who walk out of our doors.
Most recently our CARE ministry that looks to meet the physical needs of those in the community finished our Christmas Adopt a Family program. Through the generosity of our supporters and community we were able to bless approximately 80 families (250 children) with Christmas gifts who would not have had a Christmas had it not been for this program. Even greater, seeds of the gospel were planted at our distribution night as we fed these families a meal, listened to their stories, and prayed with them. The love these parents experienced was described by one participant as, “one of the most touching experiences of her life.” We are so grateful to all of you who donated your time, talents and finances to this outreach. It would not be possible without your support.
As a ministry, we are so grateful for all of the opportunities to participate in the grand story God is writing to rescue his children and turn them back to Him. We are excited to see what God has planned for us in 2019. As we meet with our board and begin to pray about vision and goals for the ministry, I am asking for you to pray that we would be diligent in keeping in step with God’s promptings, and be obedient to whatever direction He leads us in. I am reminded of the verse in Ecclesiastes chapter three that says, “He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end.”
I am very excited to for all that God is doing in this ministry, and am very thankful for your prayers and support over the past 12 years. Please keep us in prayer as we look ahead to our part in God’s story in 2019. God Bless!
In His Grip,
