No Heart Left Behind is a family-focused ministry that looks to support and nurture all aspects of family life. As we near the end of summer, and the kids head back to school, one aspect of family life that may need a little nurturing and support is PARENTING! Being a parent is one of the most fulfilling yet changing roles in life. This is primarily due to the fact that more instructions come with a blender than how to parent a child! Not to mention, no two children are exactly alike so the instructions can change from one child to the next. We know there are many scriptures that can help guide us through the challenges of parenting such as, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and he will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6),” and, “Whoever spares the rod hates their children, but the one who loves their children is careful to discipline them (Proverbs 13:24).” However, it is difficult to know how to practically apply those truths when you are dealing with a toddler throwing a tantrum, or the rebellion, conflicts, and serious issues facing teenagers today.
If we look at God’s example, it is clear that He parents each of his children differently. From how He chooses to speak to us, to how He teaches, encourages, and disciplines us, He gives us exactly what we need. Clearly, we will never do it perfectly like our heavenly Father, but I believe the key to parenting is understanding your child’s unique heart so that you can guide and mold your child into the person God desires them to be. This is a high calling; one that needs to be encouraged and supported. Therefore, No Heart Left Behind will be offering our 4-week parenting series called, “The Heart of Parenting” during the month of October. This series will be held on Tuesday evenings at the Northlake Crisis Pregnancy Center in Covington, and will teach you practical ways based on scriptural principles to create the culture of Christ in your home. Some of the topics we will discuss will be:
• The Four Hearts of Parenting
• Attitudes of the Home
• The Root of Problematic Behavior
• Listening to Your Child Versus Hearing what Your Child is Saying
Details and sign-up for the series can be found on the event page of our website. We pray that you will consider attending this life-changing series. There are days, many sometimes, where parenting is hard, and messy, and you feel like you don’t have what it takes. But be encouraged! God entrusted His children to you not by mistake, but by design. Despite the mess we make, God gives us the grace and the privilege to be a child’s parent. It is our heart at NHLB, to encourage and equip you on that parenting journey. Be blessed!
