In John 10:10, Jesus said “I came so that they may have life and have it abundantly.” However, many who try to walk out the Christian faith and experience the abundant life that Jesus speaks of, can end up feeling tired, frustrated, and inadequate. We deal with wounds, emotions, and burdens that seem overwhelming. We struggle with sin and self-defeating thoughts that invade our minds. We know there are all kinds of things that we are “supposed” to do as Christians, yet we struggle to make these behaviors a constant reality in our life. There are also those of us who appear in control on the outside, but lack peace and feel out of control on the inside. It reminds me of what Paul says in Romans chapter 7, verse 15, “ I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do.”
Unfortunately, this is a reality that many Christians face. The truth is that when we try to walk out our faith on our own, the Christian life is not only hard but IMPOSSIBLE! God, in His grace, designed it this way. He wants us to stop TRYING to live the Christian life and let Christ live His life through us. We can’t “fix it all” and we can’t “make it all right.” Only God can. The truth of this is echoed in Colossians 1:27(b), “…Christ IN you, the hope of glory.” Christ is calling us to live from the inside, out. As He changes us from the inside, it allows us to live the empowered, abundant life that He promises.
LIVING FROM THE INSIDE OUT is the topic our speaker, Kelann Sigl, will lead us through on our women’s beach retreat September 22-24th. For the past 12 years, Kelann has served as a Teaching Leader for Bible Study Fellowship. She is a gifted teacher, and has a deep passion for leading women to fall deeper in love with Jesus.
